29 | APR | 2020

The Exchange, a spiral "hive" full of light

Designed by world-renowned Japanese architecture firm Kengo Kuma & Associates, is the Japanese studio's first project in Australia, with a privileged position in Sydney's Darling Square.

With six floors and surrounded in 20 kilometers by wood, the building stands out because of its innovative and elegant design. It is a civic center to meet the needs of the city, offering convenience when connecting Sydney to a rich range of services and amenities in Darling Square.

The Exchange building it's composed by a modern Library - With a dedicated children’s area, free WiFi, public computers, plenty of study spaces, bookable meeting rooms, ample free space and the Ideas Lab (a 200 square meter maker space within the library which has 3D printers, soldering stations, and a laser cutter, all of which can be used by startups and by the general public); a restaurant zone called Maker's Dozen with 12 of the best flavors in town - from sweet to savory; and a famous and renowned Cantonese restaurant - XOPP.

There is also a childcare facility, which spans two floors, and a rooftop with stunning views of Sydney.

Feeding Sydney's start-up culture, The Exchange will include an IQ-Hub and Maker space, designed to provide flexible spaces for events, seminars, meetings, and workshops.
