Government allocates 156 million to Housing and Refurbishment Policies

07 | NOV | 2018

By 2024 it is expected that 700 million euros will be spent in Housing and Refurbishment

By 2024, the deadline by which the prime minister intends to eradicate all unworthy housing situations in Portugal, it is expected that 700 million euros will be spent.

But by 2019, the budgetary effort to finance the promotion of housing solutions under the First Law, - Housing Access Support Program will not consume more than 40 million euros.

The sum of all the initiatives foreseen in the State Budget for 2019 in housing, leasing and urban rehabilitation will cost a little more than 156 million euros.

The main share of this budget for housing and rehabilitation is being mobilized by the National Fund for the Rehabilitation of Buildings (FNRE), which has 50 million euros from the Social Security Stabilization Fund, to rehabilitate public assets and place it in the affordable rental market.

Regarding other programs that have already been launched and that have commitments assumed, we highlight the Prohabita that has a planned investment of 3.55 million euros for 2019 - this is the budgetary effort to support municipalities and third sector entities recovering assets to put it on the rental market.

The national public contribution already assumed in the Financial Instrument for Urban Rehabilitation and Revitalization (IFRRU) under Portugal 2020 is 3.13 million euros.
